Your hose bib (sometimes called a “sillcock”) is the outdoor faucet connected to your plumbing system, usually located along the outside wall of your house. It gives you water access for things like gardening, car washing, or hooking up a hose. Most people don’t think about it until it starts leaking or freezes during winter, but this small fixture plays a big role in your plumbing system.
If your hose bib is leaking, tough to turn, or dripping constantly, it’s time to take a closer look. That small leak might be wasting more water than you think and could eventually cause damage to your foundation or siding.
Most of the time, a leaky hose bib is caused by a worn-out washer, loose packing nut, or minor damage to the valve seat. If your hose was left attached during a freeze, the internal pipe may have cracked behind the wall, which causes hidden leaks inside your home.
